This experience was one of the most beautiful things I have ever done. After the exercise was complete, we had a moment of silence where we could view and analyze the “shape” we created. I was led to tears. After thinking about growth and blossoming for nearly ten minutes, the shape that we created looked like a flower to me. I felt a deep spiritual connection to what we made as a group. “ - retreat workshop participant

Harvard Medical School, 2019, Boston, MA ~ Soul and Brain Live event *photos by Natalia Leginowicz

Working alongside Dr. Micheal Ferguson, a PhD neuroscientist at Harvard medical school, these companion workshops were customized for the Soul & Brain live event - an event integrating neuroscience, philosophy, virtual reality, nature, and art to explore big questions about human nature. The workshops were customized into a combination of herbal meditations, guided visualizations, and interactive creativity. Each component was in reflection of core concepts such as the consciousness of the natural world and the neuroscience behind theories of the soul (or spirit) brought forward in collaboration with Dr. Ferguson.

River of Life, 2018, Jamaica Plain, MA ~ an interactive installation created as a visual companion to an organizational process.

This contemplative community art piece was customized for a spiritual community as they were redefining their direction and organizational identity. This interactive work of art not only reflected this community’s tender process but also helped to activate visually ~ through metaphor and symbol ~ what was being expressed through their own internal group processes. It is a visual support and assist to help with communal integration of the desire to come together in a common direction and to highlight the inherent beauty and tension of that process. This customized mini retreat workshop and community ceremony were created for a college art department retreat. Contemplating the shapes we create together as individuals in community ~ each group was lead in a guided visualization meditation and invited then to contribute to their communal shape by adding a wooden dowel in connection a mirrored center. Part two of the retreat included an artist presentation on the concept of the consciousness of water followed by a water meditation in collaboration with a student choir group who closed the ceremony with their song.
